The only trouble with one of these podcasts that’s all over the place is that it means there’s a ton of things I wanna comment on – but that’d be too much even for me……. Ye Demon Commenter of Olde Londone Towne. So I’ll restrict meself to a few and stick the rest on my WordPress page tomorrow.
The quality of the sound of this one did suit the quiet & intimate (in the sense of it being like one side of a conversation) nature of the content. Humdrum is not necessarily a bad thing, Nick, – it’s what most of our lives are, so it’s the differences & the similarity between your humdrum-ness and mine that I find interesting.
Yep – Sheffield is a town in England. It’s in the middle of the country & is an old industrial centre which historically produced iron & steel. It’s most noted for its associated production of cutlery – I think its also where stainless steel was invented. When I look at maps of the U.S. I can spot a heap of place names that are also in the U.K. I guess the settlers/immigrants, when they founded towns, chose names for them that they knew from the old country. It’s most noticable to me in New England which is over-run with familiar…to a Brit…. place names. When we actually visit one of these it can be fun to compare it with the British original – as they are usually so vastly different.
Media coverage of the U.S. election process has been gathering pace over here too – there seems to be much more than before. Greater interest, I suppose, because of the current threat of a recession in the U.S. ecomony and the knock-on effects that’ll have in the U.K. And the overseas miliatary ventures that both your country & mine are involved in. In all of the coverage I do sense that there’s very little support for the Republicans from our media. It is supposed to be impartial – especially the BBC – but I can detect a bias there.
But that’s enough from me for now. I’ve got a few more things to mention and I’ll stick ‘em on my WordPress blog tomorrow night. After all, that IS one of the things it’s meant for.
You will make out like a bandit at that campground. I camp at the Florida Sawmill Campround (60 miles north of Tampa) a couple times a year, and always have a great time.
