  1. Eeeek ……just had a bit of a shock there ….. clicked on that old familiar bookmark and up came this new improved, very modern, WordPress template. It’s very bright & stark – not perhaps best suited to the old codgers amongst us ( well, me mainly) with an on going light sensitivity.

    But, to business. Racism – I’ve ceased to be surprised at the amount of racism I’ve encountered/been a witness to, shown by one ethnic minority towards another. West Indians/Caribbeans towards Africans. East Asians Hindus towards Pakistani Muslims. Greeks to Turks, and vice versa. I’m employed in a extremely culturally & racially diverse workplace & I’ve lost count of the times I’ve had one ethnic person confide their racist thoughts, about another coworker of a different ethnicity, to me personally. I suspect that they think that as I’m white I must be naturally a racist and therefore share their mindset. I find I’m having to frequently challenge the remarks & express disagreement & disapproval. Gets old, does this.

    The End Times: Nick, you know I spent a lot of time over in Florida listening to talk radio as there wasn’t much else I could do, especially late into the night. Having not much choice in New Port Richey, I found myself listening with a great deal of incredulity to some religious radio stations. There was one demented female evangelical right wing christian presenter who was sounding off on this subject. She was of the opinion that certain world events ( Israel’s behaviour in the Middle east for example) were having the effect of delaying the progress/arrival of the End Times and henceforth the Rapture would also be delayed. Something she declared to be a matter of regret. ( and the work of Satan to boot) On another topic, abortion, she said that one of the reasons America was going down the tubes was that because of the millions of aborted foetuses never being born & growing into adult citizens, there was this huge shortfall in taxpayers leading to the current financial troubles. Also that there would be a national shortage of citizens to go into the armed forces and defend the country in the future. So that proved that abortion is a recipe for disaster for the nation. Words fail me – these people are sooooo crazy.

    The ladies in that office sounded a cheerful bunch – I loved the delightful accents they had – & you seemed to get on well with them. [Well, with Nick Thomas, what is there NOT to like? :) ]
