I’ve posted a few video’s from home movies my dad made of us back in the early 60’s. Check them out by clicking here. Leave me your comments. I’d like to know what you think. While you are on my Gallery page upload your picture to “My Listener” page.
The videos were taken with my Dad’s wind-up 8 mm film camera. In those days there weren’t camcorders and most consumer movie cameras were of the silent variety. The wind-up camera made human movements cross the film plane faster than normal. So you’ll notice a quickened pace during the clips I’ve posted here. The film was digitized by Home Movie Depot in Missouri. If you own any old film you should consider having them digitized to preserve your memories. I’m giving DVD copies of the home movies to my brother and sisters for Christmas. I’m certain they’ll enjoy seeing these old films once again.

Nick, these are great …. I like the commentaries, even tho’ I don’t know the people it puts them into context. I think you take after your Mom physically, more than your Dad and I agree that in ‘Lets Twist’ he does seem to concentrate his filming a LOT on the neighbour lady……especially her rear end !
Doesn’t seeing these old films get you a tad sad? It would me if I had anything like this from my childhood…. awakening all sorts of forgotten memories. Like in ‘Easter’ when your basket was empty of eggs while all the other kids’ were full. Awwwww….that’s a very poignant shot & something I can so identify with.
Thanks for posting these, Nick. A few observations:
- We had the same red tricycle!
- My mom and her best neighbor friend also used to lay out in the sun on towels in the yard. Do people do this anymore?
- Pat was a looker and was “stacked” as they said at the time.
- Like Paul, I think it’s a bit sad that your brother got all the eggs.
- Your family seemed to really enjoy each other’s company.
- If you’re still in contact with them, I’m sure Pat’s kids would love a copy of these.
