I found an interesting forum on my hometown newspapers page. It should shed a little light on “Queer” park in Florence and the way straight people perceive gays. Go here to visit the forum page. The forum mentions two parks in Florence. Wilson Park in downtown Florence and McFarland Park near the Tennessee River. I totally understand parents not wishing to expose their children to the true ways of the world. They fear these “perverts” may attempt to molest or convert their children. God forbid.

Ryan Skipper was a 25 year old gay man from Polk County, Florida who was murdered on March 14, 2007 in what authorities called a hate crime. The murder has caused outrage among gay rights groups who see similarities between Ryan’s murder and the murder of Matthew Shepard. Read about Ryan here.
