President Obama spoke to House Republicans at their retreat in Baltimore on Friday. In his remarks he said he welcomed disagreement and debate, but called for genuine bipartisanship and asked for constructive ideas in confronting the nation’s problems. Watch Obama as he answers questions from individual Republican House members. Go here to view the event. This is great television. This is history. This is the Obama I voted for. He made us proud.

I’ve always had a fascination with the subject and Matt was kind enough to send me a gay porn video of twin brothers who actually have sex with one another. Outro Music: “The Only Time” by Nine Inch Nails. iPhone conversation. Total running time: 57 minutes 51 seconds. Click here to listen or right click to download this podcast.

Republican to win the late Ted Kennedy’s Senate Seat?
In Uncategorized on January 15, 2010 at 3:09 pmI have mixed feelings about a probable win by the Republican Scott Brown in Tuesday’s special election for the Senate seat held by the late Senator Ted Kennedy, who died of brain cancer in August of 2009. I am a liberal independent living in the red state of Alabama. I loath the Republican Party. But I also loath this so-called Health Care Reform Bill. When I voted for Barack Obama, I voted for change. I believed Obama when he promised change we could believe in. I sent his campaign money. I was lucky enough to shake his hand and take video of him when he came to Birmingham during his campaign for President. Obama talked about and supported a government run public option during his campaign. He was an excellent campaigner and as such was elected President. We believed in him. I thought the world had finally changed. That sanity had been restored to our great nation. But something happened in his first year in office. Obama changed. He became a typical politician! He sacrificed his progressive principals. He walked away from us. So I can understand why it is likely on Tuesday the people of Massachusetts will walk away from Obama. What a terrible outcome for the legacy of Ted Kennedy, a great champion of the people. I blame Obama for this debacle. He should have stood firm for a strong public government option and vowed to veto any bill without it. He should have campaigned as long and as hard for these principals as he did to gain the Presidency. I thought he’d be a fighter. Now he just looks pathetic trying to save a senate seat which should easily be held by a Democrat. Should Brown win this seat on Tuesday it may well mark an end to any second term of Obama. It may (however) not be the death nail to health care reform. The House might decide to pass the original Senate bill without amendment which would not require a new Senate vote. Whatever occurs on Tuesday, this is surely the end of what could have been the rise of progressive rule for the foreseeable future. Nothing ever really changes in Washington. I should have realized that when I thought I was voting for a great man. My eyes glazed over and substituted fiction for reality. Obama could have been a great American President. I fear he’ll only be remembered as the first black President. All I can do now is shake my head and worry about what awaits us as the Republicans are reborn to do more harm to this country and the world. —Nick Thomas
