So you wanna be the next podcast star?
Here’s what you’ll need:
1) A computer;
2) Recording software (Audacity offers free recording software for Windows, Mac and the Linux operating systems. Go here to download the software;
3) A microphone. If your computer comes with a built-in mic you can use it or a better alternative would be to purchase a mic from a music store. You don’t need an expensive mic to record audio podcasts. Make sure the clerk at the store knows your going to connect the mic into your computers audio input or USB port;
4) A hosting service. After you record your podcast you’ll need a hosting service which will store all your podcasts. I use Libsyn. They offer budget hosting plans for the non-professional and those who will not require a lot of disk space. The hosting service typically charges a monthly fee to host your files. Just record, then edit an MP3 file on your Audacity recording software. Add opening and closing music and sound effects, if desired. Save the file on your computer and then log in to your Libsyn upload page on the internet. Upload the file you recorded. Type in a name for the current episode and a description of what your episode is about and then publish the file. Libsyn offers an option to submit your files to the iTunes store. The iTunes store does not host podcast files. There are lots of hosting companies. Libsyn is easier to use. If you have questions once you get this far I’ll be more than happy to offer my help. But record your podcast first. You don’t need a hosting company until you do that.
I hope the above information answers your questions. If you need more help, just shoot me an email at nickthomaspodcast@gmail.com
